Happy Holidays

I hope your Holidays were are wonderful as mine. I feel very fortunate for my sweet family and our good friends.
As lucky as I feel, we have had our share of heartache. I was very concerned about this Christmas. My husbands 29 year old son David died October 16Th. He was a gifted musician like his dad. He has a wonderful mother who misses him so deeply, my heart aches for her. It has been so difficult for us all.

But through all of the sadness, we are so thankful for our health, our wonderful little girl Katie...who had a fantastic time today!!

I wish the best for all of my readers and I pray for your families.
Peace & Joy to all of you!

Here Comes the BRIDE!!

I am becoming spoiled!! I have three FREE hours each morning now that Katie is busy with summer activities. I almost don't know how to handle it!!! So I have been sewing and coloring and now painting too.
I just had the best time painting this little bride!!

She is painted on a 9"x12" Italian water color paper... I thought about making her a doll at first, then I thought well, why not paint her. Next I want to do a bride with the flower girl...won't that be fun?
Well, my "Three Hours" are almost up. If you are interested in a print of this little bride you can find it in my Etsy shop!! www.mommylion.etsy.com

Nesting Dolls Everywhere!!

I've spent the past two weeks designing some nesting dolls. I have always loved the little Russian wooden dolls! I started out making three fabric dolls. They I saw my daughter coloring on some brown paper bags with colored pencils...MY Colored Pencils!!! But it looked great!!! So I took some of my coffee/ vanilla baked tags and did a few drawings on them. These are not prints...they are the real thing!!!
See what you think.

Oh yeah...I've added a new "Lion image" to the back of all of my 2010 dolls. Just in keeping with my Mommylion theme!!

Fourth Of July Fun

I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Fourth! My husband set up a tent in our backyard for a sleep out night. Our little Katie was so excited! We had a BBQ complete with toasted Marsh mellows...Boy, I had forgotten just how good those are!! Have you had some lately...they shoot you right back into childhood!!!

I got to work on my dolls for a few minutes when they went to sleep. But then our new Pit Puppy got very unhappy when she couldn't stay out with them. So off to bed for all of us!

Here is a little Raspberry Bear that I got to finish. Just listed her in the Shop! Happy Summer!!

Cupcakes Anyone?

Before I had my little girl Katie, I was a freelance designer doing work for Zweigart, DMC, and several other cross stitch companies. I found it VERY hard to keep deadlines with an infant, full time teaching job and all of the things that go with it! So I stopped designing for 7 years...well it is time to design once again. I always loved the cross stitch world...so gentle and relaxing to me.

I am still making dolls and I an even designing a few of my dolls for cross stitch.

I have just listed my little frosted cupcake design on my Etsy shop. You can get the pattern only or a kit. It is a quick stitch design...Enjoy!

Last Week of School!!!

I swear I am worse then the kids! This is our last week of school before summer vacation. That means finishing grades, cleaning the art room, saying goodbye for the summer and lots of work!
Somehow this weekend I have been able to fit in a little designing also...not sure how.

I have always loved cameos. I think it is amazing how they can be carved into delicate works of art!

I have a few cameo designs that are made into cross stitch patterns in my shop. They are all full stitches...no half stitcvhes here. Try stitching one when you have a little time to sit back and relax!!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone. I know I have not written in a while. Between teaching and now taking care of my father -in -law...there is not much free time anymore!

We are planning to do take dad into Norfolk today for a little adventure...but before we do, I wanted you to see my Patriotic doll that is now in my Etsy shop...

Summer Fairies

I am definitely getting that itch for summer vacation! It has been a very long school year for many reasons. My father in law has come to live with us. He is a very gentle and sweet man. He cannot see, so we are the caregivers as well as shoppers, rides to appointments, meals and much more.... It is so sad to think that he has other family here in Virginia Beach who refuse to be a part of his life and have left it all to us. Needless to say with working full time jobs, plus my little business, we are exhausted!
So when I finish a new doll it is a real accomplishment!
Here is a Little fairy I have finished as a custom order that will go out tomorrow! She has several layers of glittery tulle, some vintage fabrics and Angelina batting for hair!

Plush Fairy Party Favors!!

I just finished an order of 25 little fairies for a wonderful lady!! Actually it was for her 2 year old daughter. I have to say...it was so nice to be sewing little fairies for little girls...so sweet!!
I started by cutting all of the bodies out of a new felt I just purchased...it is a soft blush pink color, which I love. I don't like too bright of a pink for my dolls! It has to be just the right color!!
Next, I sewed all of the embroidery on the faces. They each have their own personality!!

The dresses are from a variety of pink and white patterned fabrics...a lot of roses!! Some polka dots.

I hand sew each doll together, stuff them and then add the hair which is also hand sewn on so it is secure.

Next are the soft ribbon wings. If I had had more time I would have added flowers and ribbons to the wings...Next time!!
Thank you all for looking!!

Snow at the Beach

Wow, I have lived in Virginia Beach for over 15 years and I have never seen so much snow!! We had several snow days from school last week...and here it is Saturday and another storm. It reminds me of my days in Buffalo...but not as cold and only 4" instead of 20"...
So today I stayed in and finished my new little plush bear!
I am off to put a log on the fire and sew up my next design.
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Ready for SPRING!!

It is a warm day in Virginia Beach today. After weeks of 30 degree weather...(We are not use to that here). It is feeling like Spring. It wont last, but it also wont be much longer when the sun warms the ground and we start to see some little flowers reaching up.
I have been trying so hard to stay ahead on my holiday designs, and this year I am finally getting things done early. I just love making heart plush pins, rings and bunnies. So today I listed a bunch of them. Hope you enjoy them!!

Valentine Plush Ring

I just love making things for Valentines Day!! Yesterday I started making some little plush heart shaped rings. I started with a felt heart which I added some flower trim to. I added sequins and pink glass seed beads. To top it off I added some pearl beads all around the heart. Fits any size!!
I just love making them!! I am making more today!!!! See them at my shop www.mommylion.etsy.com

2010 will Be a Great Year for all!!!

So glad to bring in the New Year. I hope all of you have had a safe Holiday!
I am so ready for Spring. We have had my father-in-law staying with us for the holidays. My daughter is lucky to have him here. I wish I had had more time with my grandparents. We don't think about how important our family ties are until we are older. Isn't that true?
We are blessed to have him with us this holiday season! But, I am already thinking of Valentine's day, love, and the beautiful warm Spring weather that is ahead here in Virginia Beach.
I have to say, I love the winter months at the Beach. No tourists, just quiet waves...just beautiful...but I am ready to plant flowers!!!
Here to help us celebrate the Spring are some wonderful plush pieces at my Etsy shop...come see!!
